Rockdogs smash Mavericks in Boston Finale

Jamel goes for the block against ClintThe Rockdogs schooled the upstarts Maryland Mavericks in the finals by applying defensive pressure on the young team to take a 29-8 halftime lead. They used that momentum to cruise on to a 52-30 win. Jamel Lewis and Mikey Survillion shared tournament MVP honors.

Participating in the first Boston Gay Basketball Tournament in many years, the Rockdogs were lucky to squeeze by the Los Angeles Thunder in their second round robin game. The Los Angeles Thunder saw the comeback of Los Angeles' big three of Gabe Caldwell, David, and Clint Walker - these three players lead an L.A. squad that gave the Rockdogs their last defeat back in the Memphis tournament in 2007.

On the first day of the Boston tournament, the Thunder and Rockdogs exchanged leads before the Thunder took a six point lead with a minute remaining. From there the Rockdogs made a furious comeback capped by steals from Mike and Jamel. A missed free-throw by the Thunder, left the Rockdogs with the ball, a one-point deficit with just 6.8 seconds remaning in the game.

Jamel inbounded the ball to Mikey, who drove the left side as he was bumped by his defender. Undeterred, Mikey continued to attack the baseline, took off, hung, and shot a layup that hung on the rim before going in as the clock ran out. San Francisco won the game 58-57.
